President Barack Obama

As of 9:42 PM EST, the other networks are too chicken to call it, so I will. Barack Obama will be our next President of the United States.

At this point McCain would have to win all the usual red states plus Iowa, Indiana, Florida, North Carolina, and Virginia, all of which he is polling behind in or too close to call; and on top of this he would need to win one of the West Coast states (CA, OR, WA) to even get to 270 electoral votes. To say this would take a miracle would be quite the understatement. McCain has already lost Pennsylvania and Ohio; two states he pretty much had to win.

I didn’t vote for him, but congratulations nonetheless to Senator Obama. Cheers to our next President!

that was a gutsy call. :)

happy a few rogue, single issue bishops did not sway the Catholic vote from historic to myopic. mccain gave a great concession speech; he’s a good man. obama is an historic step toward greater unity for america and beyond.

:) Yeah, not so much of a “gusty” call. I just did some quick math with the electoral votes, and it was obvious McCain could not win. I think the news networks were doing the same, but it seems they couldn’t legally call the election until the West Coast polls closed @ 11:00 PM EST.

Well, one good thing is that we are a civil society where the losers don’t take office by force.

Well, we tried the “by force” thing in the South once. Didn’t go so well.

I assume by “single issue” you mean killing an unborn child. Let’s not shield reality with vanilla labels like “issue”. I’m not sure how you can fault anyone for being a single issue voter if the killing of innocent life is the single issue.

We only ignore abortion because it’s hidden, out of view. If the news programs showed abortion procedures everyday like they do war footage from Iraq, abortion would be outlawed in a day; and no woman would ever dream of procuring such a procedure.

Yes. Problem is, “killing of innocent life” is not a single issue.

Correct. Killing of innocent life reaches into more than just abortion. Innocent lives die in war, as they do in abortions. But these are hardly comparable when the number of lives lost is taken into account. Abortion has killed tens of millions of innocent lives. All the wars going on right now, combined, don’t even come close. You tell me, which is the greater evil.

Surely, you can understand why so many take this up as their “single issue.” It is an issue worth fighting for, and fighting for tirelessly.
